Video: Inventing a Sustainable Future
In this video, Environmental Solutions Initiative leaders and students explore the benefits of a multidisciplinary approach to education, research, and convening.
MIT is both committed and uniquely positioned to create solutions to today’s environmental challenges. In 2014, the Institute founded the Environmental Solutions Initiative (ESI) to mobilize its strengths—including trusted policy expertise, groundbreaking climate science, and innovative engineering and design—in service of that aim.
“Almost every important environmental challenge is multifaceted,” says John Fernández ’85, director of ESI and professor of building technology in the Department of Architecture. “The only way to really approach solutions is to bring multiple disciplines to that challenge.”
